From emotional support to everyday essentials, donor-funded services help cancer patients feel seen, supported, and never alone.
At Hoag, exceptional cancer care goes beyond the latest treatments and technologies. It includes a full spectrum of support services designed to care for the mind, body, and spirit, provided free of charge.
From massage therapy and nutrition consults to mental health support and financial assistance, these programs ease the burden of a cancer diagnosis and help patients feel seen, supported, and empowered at every step of their journey.
Patricia Castillo, a Hoag patient facing a rare form of cancer, knows just how powerful this support can be. Diagnosed at just 44, Patricia’s first thoughts were of her teenage daughter. While she focused on her family, her Hoag care team was focused on her.
“It was such a help to have all these people around me being positive and helping make things easier,” Patricia said. “They told me what I would need before I knew I would need it. I didn’t have to think about what to do next.”
Through Hoag’s integrated cancer support services, Patricia received everything from a wig and head wrap session to nutrition counseling and therapeutic massage. She also received help through Hoag’s Financial Bridge Program, which offsets expenses like groceries and transportation—costs that can become major stressors for patients in treatment.
These services are made possible by philanthropy and often through small gifts that make a big impact. Thanks to a recent giving campaign supported by a generous matching challenge from donors Marcia and Hank Adler, more patients like Patricia will continue to experience the healing power of personalized, compassionate care.
We are proud to make a gift that funds cancer support services at Hoag. Witnessing the impact these programs have had on a dear friend undergoing cancer treatment at Hoag has deeply moved us. We hope our matching gift will inspire others to join us in providing compassion and hope in a time of need.
