Hoag Hospital Irvine Emergency Department

Donors drive the excellence of an essential community resource.

“From the initial triage with nursing and the PA to each and every lab tech, X-ray tech, and CT tech to the admitting clerk and transporters- every individual we encountered was kind, friendly, professional, and efficient. They kept us informed every step of the way so we knew exactly what to expect.”

The Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion (ED) has been the hospital’s front door for those in urgent need since its 2010 opening. With Irvine’s population booming, the ED continues to meet increasing demand. Visits to the Emergency Department continue to rise, highlighting its importance as a vital resource for the community.

Coming Through for Irvine

The Du family, whose $5 million gift in 2018 funded the Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion, announced a $25M gift to the Boldly Hoag campaign in April 2024, further demonstrating their inspiring commitment to the community's health and well-being. Their generous contribution underscores the vital role that donors play in enhancing healthcare resources for everyone in Irvine. Compassionate philanthropy such as this enables continued innovation and elevated care.

Resources for Addiction and Psychiatric Needs

Hoag provides resources to manage addiction and psychiatric needs, including a substance use navigator who supports the Irvine ED.

Improved Communication for Emergency Care

In 2022, the emergency room initiated the ED Passport, a pamphlet that informs patients about average wait times and emergency department processes, helping to reduce fear and stress.

Enhanced Safety with Weighted Stretchers

Thanks to donor support, Hoag acquired Stryker’s weighted stretchers, which improve patient outcomes and staff safety by facilitating accurate weight-based treatments.

Advanced Cardiac Monitoring

The Cardiac Iron Quantification MRI software allows for non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of conditions like thalassemia, reducing the need for patient transfers and enhancing care within the community.

Donor support ensures that Hoag’s Irvine ED remains a pillar of exceptional care and compassion for our community.
