The New Emergency Department
For over 200,000 patients and family members, the Emergency Department is Hoag’s “front door.” The ED renovation and expansion will do much to fulfill our commitment to deliver the finest in patient-centered care.
The renovation will greatly improve the patient experience with faster and more personal service. The new ED will be structured in a “pod” system and each pod will be equipped with the latest clinical decision support technology and patient monitoring. The pods will consist of 11 to 12 rooms with a dedicated physician and team of nurses. All patient information will be digital and available in real time to the entire team.
Privacy is in short supply in the current ED treatment areas that consist of curtained off beds. The renovated ED will feature private rooms providing a higher degree of privacy and confidentiality. The new rooms will be spacious enough to accommodate family or friends and will be equipped with TVs.
Patients and family members will also enjoy an expanded waiting room with calm décor and a children’s play area. Comfortable seating, flat screen TVs, and a more pleasant interior will create a “front door” that will be much more inviting and comfortable.
The improved exterior will have an expanded covered entrance with improved traffic flow for both emergency vehicles and private cars. Valet parking will also be available.
These improvements fully modernize the ED and help Hoag provide the best patient experience in an emergency care situation.
In addition, the Emergency Department will have increased access to leading edge examination, diagnostic and imaging technologies including the Penumbra System to treat stroke, Advanced Imaging, and the Remote Presences™ Robot from InTouch Technologies, Inc. shown in this picture.
