Specialty Areas of Care
Though other fine neuroscience centers exist in the country, Hoag will be at the forefront of providing an integrated site and shared infrastructure for the full spectrum of neurological care. Rather than operating within isolated spheres, each of the Institute’s particular areas of focus described below benefit from shared advanced technology, outstanding medical leadership, and a complete clinical research program.
Stroke and Brain Vascular Disease – Already ranked among the top 5% of stroke programs in the U.S., Hoag’s stroke program will expand upon its renowned acute treatment methods to provide increased inpatient services, rehabilitation and recovery care, community education, and early screening options. Endovascular techniques such as clot removal, aneurysm coiling, stent/angioplasty of narrowed vessels, are just some of the treatment options available.
Brain Tumor – Hoag’s brain tumor program is the largest in the Western United States. Key to this program is the hospital’s commitment to offering leading edge technology and the finest neurosurgeons to our patients. Hoag will be the first hospital in Southern California to offer the Gamma Knife Perfexion, the most advanced tool for performing minimally invasive removal of brain tumors. Innovative immune and vaccine therapy, chemotherapy regimens, and the latest clinical protocols are already available in the outstanding Hoag Cancer Center.
Alzheimer’s and other dementia, memory disorders – A key area of the new Hoag Neurosciences Center will be the Memory Disorders Program. Through state-of-the-art imaging, new biomarkers and cognitive ability tests, and complete physical and psychological evaluations, our team of medical specialists will offer streamlined assessment and progressive treatment plans including clinical research trials that may alter or even halt disease progression. Our link to ongoing care, including to Hoag’s outpatient Alzheimer’ Family Center enables the entire continuum of care in this arena.
Neurobehavioral Program – Our goal is to provide hope for healing to patients facing neurological conditions that can be both isolating and frightening. Chronic headache and pain/ mood disorders, including migraine, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, eating disorders, and pediatric neurobehavioral conditions will be diagnosed and cared for through this program of the Hoag Neurosciences Center. The complex and sometimes mysterious interchange between the mind and body will be examined using the latest technology and methods for screening, treatment, and recovery.
Movement Disorders and Epilepsy – Hoag physicians assess and treat motion disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and epilepsy with the full array of advanced medial therapy, state-of-the-art surgical methods (including deep brain stimulation), and patient support programs. Through future growth, Hoag will continue to be at the forefront of care in this important area.
