Joel Manchester, MD Memorial Endowment Fund
Overview
The Joel Manchester, M.D. Memorial Fund will endow the Chair of the Hoag Advanced Cardiac Imaging Center and support designated programs within the Center. The initial funding objective for the endowment is $5 million.
Objective
Make Hoag a nationally recognized leader in developing new diagnostic techniques that promote significant improvements in patient health; wellness and heart disease prevention; and "world class" clinical outcomes (i.e., top 10% in the US in all measurable cardiac clinical categories).
Return on Investment
The coordinated application of advanced imaging technology will result in a focus on the risk of heart disease and not merely detecting the presence of the disease.
Specific benefits will include:
- Non-invasive, quicker acquisition of higher resolution images for more accurate diagnosis
- Early detection of asymptomatic patients with high or intermediate risk factor
- Synergistic effort and joint participation by the Emergency Care Department, Cardiology, and Radiology for optimum outcomes, particularly in emergency cardiac care
- Clinical education and research led by Chair
- Ultimately, patient-focused disease prevention, care and support
Desired Future State
In order to achieve the objective, Hoag will need both a new generation of leadership in this specialty and a global upgrade and replacement strategy for its current portfolio of imaging equipment. In addition, Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute must continue its evolution to a high volume, referral center for cardiac care.
