Giving opportunities

Gifts at Work

Hoag has a long and robust partnership with the private community. In fact, it’s because members of the community have invested in Hoag that it has grown into a trusted, nationally recognized healthcare leader.  Countless patients and their families, physicians, nurses and staff have been touched by the kindness of our donors.  Philanthropy has helped Hoag create programs, recruit staff, acquire technology and open or upgrade facilities - all things that would not have been possible without the generosity of our community.

Below are highlights of a few recent examples of donor-supported initiatives at the Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute:

Ambient Lighting in Cardiac Cath Suites

Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute performs over 4,000 procedures annually in five cardiac catheterization suites to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. New state-of-the-art technology, called the Ambient Lighting Experience, now allows patients the ability to personalize the lighting, projected images and sounds in the procedure room. Choosing from 10 nature themes, the patient's preference is projected on the walls and ceilings wrapping them in a soothing, multi-sensory setting that reduces stress levels and assists them to lie still as required, lessening the need for sedatives.

Hybrid Operating Room

Cardiac surgery has taken a quantum leap forward with the introduction of the Hybrid Operating Room (Hybrid OR). The latest concept in delivering advanced patient care, the Hybrid OR combines the best elements of the operating room with state-of-the-art imaging technology necessary for interventional heart and vascular procedures. Thanks to the Hybrid OR, patients receive world-class care with shorter hospital stays, minimally invasive procedures and faster, more complete recovery. With patients at the center of a multidisciplinary healthcare model, the Hybrid OR is transforming the way complex cardiac surgery is performed.

Pre/Post-Surgical Unit

The Pre/Post-surgical unit included in Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute construction project will greatly improve the experience for surgical patients.  Currently patients undergo two-part processing prior to their surgery time - they arrive in the Women’s Pavilion for an initial assessment and are then transported to OR holding for the immediate pre-surgical assessment by the surgeon, anesthesiologist and surgical RN.  These patients are currently required to arrive approximately 2 ½ hours prior to the expected surgical time. When the new unit is complete, patients will have a single-step pre-surgical process, including bedside registration, and will be able to reduce the pre-surgical arrival time by one hour.  All the required pre-surgical care will be provided on one location!
