Karen Linden
Chair
Karen was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2005 and became Board Secretary in 2007. She is a graduate of the University of Nevada in Reno and Las Vegas with degrees in nursing. Karen was active in the nursing profession for over ten years and was an officer in the Nevada State Medical Auxiliary. She also serves as Chair of the Circle 1000.
James Coufos
Vice Chair
Jim retired as a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and a Managing Director of its Spear, Leeds, & Kellogg LLC subsidiary in 2005. He is active in a number of charities and sits on the Board and Finance Committee of the Alliance for Children’s Rights, based in Los Angeles.
James T. Morris

Jim was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2006. Jim is the Chairman, President and CEO of Pacific Life Insurance Company. He joined the company in 1982.
Greg Brakovich
Secretary
Greg Brakovich is currently CEO of Milestone Partners, LLC, a financial services company providing a broad variety of financial products including real estate, hedge funds and technology for sale through financial intermediaries.
Richard F. Afable, M.D., M.P.H.
President & CEO, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian
Dr. Afable joined Hoag Hospital as president and chief executive officer (CEO) in August 2005. He has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare as a practicing physician, educator and administrator. Dr. Afable is leading Hoag through a period of continued growth in programs and facilities that will enable the hospital to maintain it's tradition of excellence and quality health care.
Kenneth L. Beall

Ken was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2002, became Secretary/Treasurer in 2003 and Treasurer in 2004. Ken is managing member of Dartbrook Partners, LLC, an investment management company specializing in real estate investments. Ken also serves as Chair of "Choose Nursing, Choose Hoag."
Walter Blass
Member
Walter Blass is the former CEO of Shearson Lehman Mortgage Corporation, Newport Beach. He also served as Executive Vice President of Shearson Lehman Brothers, New York City; Director and Senior Executive Vice President, Centrust Savings, Miami; and Director and Executive Vice President of Advance Mortgage, Detroit.
Robert K. Cole

Bob was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2005. He is the former Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of New Century Financial Corporation.
Lauri Delson
Member
Lauri joined the Board in 2009. She is an independent investor and active partner of DBM Development, a local real estate development company. Lauri has been instrumental in bringing world class diabetes care to our community through her support of the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center. She has been an active community volunteer serving on several charitable organizations.
Ira J.Garbutt

Ira was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2001. Ira is a financial consultant with The Chamberlain Group. He is a long-standing member of Orange Coast Estate Planning Council and the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting. At Hoag he is also a member of the Endowment and Planned Gifts Committee and the new Chairman of the Toshiba Classic.
Max Hampton
Member
Max began serving on the Foundation Board and the Hospital Board in 1997. After more than 25 years with Merrill Lynch, Max retired as a Senior Vice President in 1999. Max joined the Hoag Hospital Foundation Investment Management Committee in 1994 and was appointed vice-chair in 1997 and chair in January 1998.
Steve Jones

Steve Jones provides leadership to the 14 member Board of Directors that governs Hoag Hospital. The Board provides guidance and oversight to our non-profit, faith-based hospital with a focus on the mission to provide the highest quality healthcare services to the communities we serve.
Roger T. Kirwan
Member
Roger was elected to the Board in 2009. He is an active philanthropist and business leader in
Orange County. In 2003 he founded Woodside Credit, a nationwide collector car finance company based in Newport Beach. Roger has served on the Orange County Performing Arts board since 1996 and chairman from 1999 to 2002 and is a current director of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. He also serves on several other boards in the Orange County area
Margaret Larkin

Margaret was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2006. She and her husband, Thomas Larkin, are relatively new to the Newport Beach community, moving here from Los Angeles and reside on Lido Island. They have strong ties to various Los Angeles organizations including Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, St. Johns Hospital and Loyola Marymount University.
Ron Livingston

Ron was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2003. Co-owner of Wittenberg-Livingston Inc. a development company with projects in golf course properties, condo projects, apartment buildings and single family homes.
Jim Madden

Jim was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2002. He is the former Chair, President and CEO of Exult, Inc, a company he founded in 1998 and is currently a General Partner of Accretive, LLC, a private equity firm. An active sailor, Jim also served as Chairman of Hoag’s Regatta event.
Sandi Simon

Sandi was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2003. Sandi is married to Ronald M. Simon, President/CEO of RSI Home Products. In addition to Hoag, she is active in a variety of local and national causes.
James Slavik
Member
Jim was elected to the Board in 2009. He is Chairman and a director of Mark IV Capital, Inc., a real estate investment and development company located in Newport Beach and a director of W.W. Grainger. His philanthropy includes serving as a director of not-for-profit organizations including Angel Flight West and Young President’s Organization.
Cynthia Stokke
Member
Cynthia Stokke, an attorney who practiced in the Orange County District Attorney’s office and held the position of Assistant Executive Director of the Orange County Bar Foundation. Cindy has served many charitable organizations including Harbor Day School, National Charity League, Newport Harbor High School, and is a current board member of the Orange County Bar Foundation and the Reach Foundation.
Rober R. Taylor

Robert Taylor is an entrepreneur who started his first company, Village Bath Products, in 1964. He is credited with numerous innovative marketing concepts ranging from SOFTSOAP brand liquid soap to a variety of bath products and women’s fragrances including OBSESSION and ETERNITY under the CALVIN KLEIN name.
Rusty Turner
Member
Rusty has been a resident of Newport Beach since 1965. He founded Turner Development Corporation, which specializes in the development and acquisition of office and industrial buildings in Southern California.
