Bill Thompson retires from Foundation Board of Directors
Veteran Foundation Board member Bill Thompson will retire from the Board in August, having served for nearly a decade.

Upon joining the Board in 1997, Thompson quickly established himself as a leader and was elected to chair from 2000 to 2002. He provided valuable leadership during the Women's Pavilion capital campaign, and was later honored by the Board as the annual Vin Jorgensen award winner. During his tenure, Thompson also inspired numerous gifts of significance. His favorite motto is "When it's your turn, you'll be glad Hoag is here."

"From the time he joined the Foundation board a decade ago through his tenure as chair and beyond, Bill has been a force that has provided unwavering guidance in the priorities set forth by the Board," says Bob Callahan, Foundation chair. "His leadership set a standard for this decade that I, as one of his successors, continually strive to live up to."

Even though Bill's term is up on the Foundation Board, he will continue to stay very active at Hoag as the chairman of the Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute fundraising committee.

"During all the years of the Women's Pavilion campaign, we had many asking 'When are we going to build a new facility for our heart program?'" explained Thompson. "Well the time is now and we have a very dramatic story to tell as Hoag reaches for new levels of service and excellence."

Thompson is managing director and chief executive officer of PIMCO in Newport Beach. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Thompson holds degrees from the University of Missouri and Harvard Business School. He also attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Army.

"Bill's contributions to the Foundation Board and Hoag have been invaluable," affirms Callahan. "We are pleased to know his leadership will continue."
